Willard Sands Obituary

On June 30, 2021, Willard Lee Sands of Crawfordsville passed in peace surrounded by family in his home in Crawfordsville, Iowa.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at the United Church of Crawfordsville.  Burial will be in Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at the church.  Memorials may be directed to the United Church of Crawfordsville or Washington County Hospice.  Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Columbus Junction are caring for the family.  Online condolences may be left at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.

Willard was born on October 29, 1932, the son of Frank and Vera Wood Sands in Crawfordsville, Iowa.  Willard graduated from Ainsworth High School and joined the Air Force in 1952.  Willard was an airplane mechanic; he served this Great Country from 1952 until 1956.  In 1956, Willard married the love of his life Dorothy Ann (Jones) at the Presbyterian Church in Cotter, Iowa.  Willard farmed in the Crawfordsville area all of his life, raising crops, sheep, hogs and cattle.  Willard was known for always having an immaculate farm.  He retired from farming in 2000 and moved to his current address in Crawfordsville.  He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Crawfordsville; daughter, Virginia Sands of Crawfordsville, son Dale (Ada Sue) of Cedar Rapids and daughter, LeAnn (Rex) Felts of Crawfordsville; three grandsons, Roy, David and Ryan Felts; great-granddaughter, Izabelle Felts and great-grandson, Evan Felts. 

Willard was a member of the American Legion of Crawfordsville, and the United Church of Crawfordsville.  Willard enjoyed tinkering around in his shop, camping, fishing, riding his gator and in his younger years motorcycle riding.  Willard will be missed by his wife and children.
