Walter E. Hatton

Walter E. Hatton, 95, of Winfield, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Sunrise Terrace Care Center.

Celebration of life services will be held at a later date. Interment will be private at Winfield Scott Township Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield in Walter’s name. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.sandhfuneralservices.com.

Walter was born October 4, 1928 in Janesville, Wisconsin, the son of Walter H. and Ethel (Pfeiffer) Hatton. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1946. On September 10, 1948, Walter married Shirley A. Humphrey in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.

During high school, Walter ran movies and later he worked for Cudahy Packing in Winfield and Sheffer Pen in Mt. Pleasant. He served honorably in the United States Navy from 1951-1955. After service, Walter returned to Sheffer Pen for two years and then worked for Champion Spark Plug in West Burlington for 30 years. He retired and wintered in San Juan, Texas until 2020.

Walter will be dearly missed by his daughter, Kymm (Kirt) McIntosh of Falcon, CO; son, Kurt (Danean) Hatton of Cedar Rapids; and brother, Roland (Janet) Hatton of AZ.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and wife, Shirley, in 2022.
