Velma Mills Obituary

Velma Mills, 94, of Lone Tree, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at Pioneer Park in Lone Tree.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025 at the Lone Tree Presbyterian Church.  Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025 at the church.  Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery following the service.   A memorial has been established for the Lone Tree Presbyterian Church in Velma's name.  Online condolences for the family may be sent to www.sandhfuneralservice.com.  Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Lone Tree is caring for Velma’s family and arrangements.

Velma Rose Marine was born on August 11, 1930, in Nichols, Iowa, the daughter of David and Helen (Ayers) Marine.  Velma was a 1947 graduate of Nichols High School.  On June 15, 1952 Velma was united in marriage to Keith F. Mills in Nichols.  Velma began working at a telephone operator in Nichols and then went on to work at the University of Iowa Hospitals in the business office and medical records.   Velma was a member of Lone Tree Presbyterian Church where she served on various committees and was a Sunday School teacher and Bible school teacher.  She also was a member of TTT, Search Lite Club and a lot of volunteer work within the community of Lone Tree.    Velma enjoyed candle making, Cruell stitching and gardening. 

Velma will be deeply missed by her husband, Keith “Doc” Mills; children, Pamela (Stewart) Stone of Charles City, Kevin Mills of Riverside and Lauri (Max) Duvall of Davenport; grandchildren, Nathan (Tracey) Krueger, Daniel (Chris) Krueger and Joseph Krueger; great-grandchildren, Isabel Krueger, Marcus Krueger, Anya Clauson, Kiley Clauson, Allie Krueger and Jameson Krueger; several great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 

Velma was preceded in death by her parents, David and Helen Marine; her in-laws, Frank and Wilma Mills; siblings, Wilna Marine, Leroy Marine and Lyle Marine; granddaughter, Michaela Duvall and nephews, Dwight Marine and Gordon Mills.
