Tommy “TD” Axtell, 73, of Muscatine, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City after an extended illness. Per his request, cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Tommy “TD” Axtell was born on December 22, 1952 in rural Muscatine, Iowa to Thomas and Ruth (Pendell) Axtell. TD graduated from Wapello High School in 1972. He was united in marriage to Bonnie Fowler on September 20, 1986 at Peaceful Valley Church. TD loved going for long rides in cars, trucks, motorcycles; well, anything that had a motor. He could often be found out at the Conesville Race Track with the Circle of Pride Motor Rallies family. TD loved to watch all of the old Western movies on TV, listening to Christian and Country music, watching The Gather’s TV Specials, and making people laugh. Above all else, TD loved to spend time with his beloved family.
TD will be missed by his wife of 39 years, Bonnie; children Larry (Theresa) Stropes, Tina (Felxi) Colón, Crystal Stropes, and Windy Stropes; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; siblings Penny Lane and Randy (Tina) Axtell; and fur babies Tinker, Rosie, and Little Bit.
TD was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Ruth; daughter Vicky Stropes; grandsons Jeremy Reynolds and Jayson Estrada; great-grandson Isiac Martinez; and brothers John, Jimmy, and Charles Axtell.
