Steven Penton Obituary

Steven Lee Penton, 60, of Williamsburg, IA, passed peacefully on September 13, 2025.  The Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Muscatine are caring for his arrangements.

Steve lived a peripatetic life, traveling across Iowa to work on masonry jobs, with ones he enjoyed the most being those where he restored historic buildings. Some of his favorite projects included Mann Elementary, where his sister Julie worked for many years, Iowa State University, where two of his children, Abby and Hunter, attended, and Kinnick Stadium, as a lifelong Iowa Hawkeyes fan. When he wasn’t hard at work, he loved sitting by the Mississippi River, watching any sport that they could put on TV, and most of all, spending time with his family. He was often driving around in his pickup truck, drinking a can of Coke, going wherever he felt like going. He once drove 15 hours straight on a whim to New Orleans, LA, because his daughter Heather had told him there was a tomato festival that weekend. He ate some tomatoes, sat by the Mississippi River, stayed one night, then drove straight back. He had a strong sweet tooth, and his favorite treats included peanut butter blossom cookies, chocolate oatmeal no-bake cookies, and fudge.

Steve is survived by his children, Heather, Hunter, and Abigail Penton; his step-daughter, Angela (Mike) Stephenson; his siblings, Julie (Nelson) Robinson, Joe (Laurie) Penton, and Staci Ocheltree; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Bonnie and Bob Ocheltree, and his grandparents.

Steve once said: “If you see some good brick, know I’m not far away.”

A memorial is being planned for a later date. Condolences can be sent to:

Hunter & Abby Penton: 1212 Charter Oak Way, Waukee, IA 50263

Heather Penton: 1918 Dublin St., New Orleans, LA 70118
