Stephen Metcalf Obituary

Stephen V. Metcalf, 75, of Oakville, passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at his home in Oakville.  Visitation will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Wapello.  Burial will be in the Edwards Cemetery at a later date.  A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Steve.  Online condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.sandhfuneralservice.com

Stephen Virgil Metcalf was born on June 17, 1950, in Burlington, Iowa the son of Charles and Katherine Jean (Holeman) Metcalf.  Steve proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  While serving in Vietnam, he was injured after stepping on a land mine.  On June 15, 1974, Steve was united in marriage to Linda Sue Peterson in Burlington, Iowa.  He worked for the Louisa County Secondary Roads Department for 32 years.  Steve was a member of the Oakville Fire Department, serving as chief for 15 years, Oakville American Legion, Oakville City Counsel and Oakville Volunteer Foundation.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, yardwork, gardening and tinkering.

Steve will be deeply missed by his wife, Linda of Oakville; his children, Katie (Ryan) Meeker of Oakville and Bree (Bryan) Schrader of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Devon Meeker, Colton Meeker, Owon Meeker, Bryce Miller, Kinzie Schrader, Brandt Schrader and Koy Schrader; four great grandchildren with two more on the way and siblings, Karen (Jim) Cotrell, Debi (Dwain) Good, Linda J. Metcalf and Rick (Linda) Metcalf, all of Burlington.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents.
