Scott Douglas Dillon, 73, of Winfield, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at his home. A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Service of Winfield. Services and burial will be private. Memorials may be directed to the local animal shelters in Mt. Pleasant in memory of Scott. Online condolences may be left at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.
Scott was born on February 16, 1951 in Washington, Iowa, the son of Marion E. “Matt” and Wilma L. (Ellis) Dillon. He graduated from Hedrick High School and from the University of Wisconsin. Scott was united in marriage to Jeanette Brown on November 22, 1972 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
Scott worked as a structural engineer for Cornerstone in Mt. Pleasant for over 51 years. He was a huge supporter of animal sanctuaries, particularly wolf sanctuaries, and he had a soft spot for rescuing homeless animals. He was an avid marksman and hunter, hunting with both a bow and rifle. He also enjoyed fishing, roasting coffee beans, and making wine in his free time. Scott was a continuous learner his whole life. He had a very analytical mind that drew him to science and always wanting to figure out how things worked. He and Jeanette were devoted parents, always including their children in everything they did. Scott had a kind and giving heart and would do anything for anyone, especially his family.
Scott will be deeply missed by his wife, Jeanette Dillon of Winfield; children: Trish (Daxton) Waltermyer of Cedar Rapids; Jennifer (Dustin) Miller of Mt. Pleasant; and Matt (Jessica) Dillon of Cadiz, Kentucky; grandchildren: Paige, Dylan, Payton, Isabella, Jaxon, Riley and Parker; three great-grandchildren; sister, Sue A. Dillon of Winfield; and sister-in-law, Joyce Dillon of Wellman.
He was preceded in death by parents and his brother, Jack Dillon.
