Sandra Lee Tisor, 85, of Joy, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at Mercer Manor in Aledo, Illinois. Sandy was born on February 27, 1940 to William and Virginia Reynolds Broyles in Peoria. She married Thomas Dutton on October 14, 1960 in Pekin, IL.; they later divorced. Sandy married Leonard Tisor on August 28, 1971 in Letts, IA. In Len's eyes, Sandy could do no wrong. Former president of the following: WEA (Westmer Education Association); first chapter of NOW in Muscatine, IA; Mercer County Women for Women; trustee and president of Village of Joy; original member of W.I.R.E. (Western lllinois Retired Educators) in Moline, IL. Former board member of Mercer County Youth Service Bureau and Mercer Credit Union, Aledo, IL. Earned a BA degree in English in 1972 from the University of lowa and a Master's degree in Educational Administration from Western lllinois University in 1990. She taught for 33 years in the Westmer School District and eight semesters at Muscatine Community College. She was also the principal of a private elementary school in Davenport, IA. Sandy was part of a team to evaluate school systems for the lowa Department of Education. Sandy was an lllinois delegate for two years to the national convention for the NEA (Orlando and Chicago). She was an award-winning essayist on the First Amendment. On the walls of her home was a gallery of hand-stitched quilts created by talented Amish and Mennonite women in Ohio.
Sandy is survived by her daughter, Deborah Dawn Gerke, Omaha, NE; son, Michael Lee Dutton, Bloomington, IL; brother, Richard Broyles, Modesto, CA. Sandy was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard: her parents; her Aunt Louise Reynolds; sister, Marcia Kay Watt, Oak Harbar, WA., and a stepson, Brian Tisor.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 – 1:00 P.M. just prior to the funeral on Friday, May 16, 2025 at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services, Muscatine, lowa. Funeral Service will be held on Friday to begin at 1:00 P.M. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mercer County Women for Women, the Mercer County Humane Society, or Mercer Carnegie Library, all in Aledo, IL.
