Ronald D. Swetland, 82, of Blue Grass, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Bettendorf. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2023, at the Blue Grass Cemetery with military honors. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com. Ronald D. Swetland was born on December 20, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Walter and Rose Swetland. Ron proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Barstow, California and Savanah, Georgia. On September 3, 1960, Ron was united in marriage to Judith Ann Lowe in Muscatine. Following Ron’s military service, he and his wife moved to Blue Grass for the remainder of their lives. Ron worked for Smith Trucking for several years until owning and operating Swetland Trucking with his wife for over 20 years traveling throughout the United States. He enjoyed shooting, spending time in the garden and vacationing, which included China, Mexico, California and Hawaii.
Ron will be deeply missed by his brother, Mike Swetland of Purcell, Oklahoma; ex sister-in-law, Kathy Schesler of Gilbert, Arizona; nieces and nephews, Bill (Lorinda) Morgan of Illinois City, Illinois, Tamara (Jay) Burkamper of North Carolina, Jodi (David) Paetz of Naperville, Illinois, Wade (Michelle) Lee of Muscatine, John (Melody) Swetland of Purcell, Oklahoma, Debbie (Michael) Smith of Chandler, Arizona and Tammy Swetland of Purcell, Oklahoma, and several great nieces and nephew.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Judy on August 2, 2023.
