Ronald D. McGowan, 91, of Muscatine, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Ronald Dean McGowan was born on June 15, 1934, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Carroll and Corrine E. (McIntyre) McGowan. He was a graduate of Muscatine High School in 1952 and went on to Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in education. Ronald proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany from June 1957 thru May 1959. On August 30, 1959, Ronald was united in marriage to Kay Lynn Hahn in Muscatine. He worked for J&K Button Company, owned and operated several restaurants, retail stores, rental properties and was part-owner in the startup of Bayhill Fertilizer. Ronald was a member of the New Hope Global Methodist Church, Muscatine Elks, and past member of the Elks chanters, Muscatine, Investment club, and the I-Club. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed cars, dining out, socializing with people, family gatherings, and spending time at Hilton Head Island, SC.
Ronald will be deeply missed by his wife, Kay of Muscatine; his children, William “Bill” McGowan and his significant other, Kathryn Lout of Muscatine, Sarah (Dan) Vegter of Guttenberg and Phil (Casey) McGowan of Bettendorf; grandchildren, Lindsay (Joe) Petersen, Karina (Andrew) Lancaster, Alec McGowan, Avery (Antonio) Rodriguez, Abby (Elias) McCreight and Joshua McGowan; eight great-grandchildren Collin Cox, Wesley and Jude Petersen, Luca Lancaster plus one on the way, Audra and Emelia McCreight, Zayd and Zinnia Rodriguez plus one on the way, and one brother, Dennis (Gayle) McGowan of Denver, Colorado.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents.
