Rodger Carl Broderson was born on June 5, 1959 in Muscatine, the son of Carl and Darlene (Rodgers) Broderson. Rodger was a 1977 graduate of Muscatine High School. In 1979, Rodger married Cathy Bugh and four children were born to this union. Later, on April 5, 1996, Rodger was united in marriage to Diana Martin Armstrong in Muscatine. Rodger worked hard to take care of his family; he ran several small businesses and was also employed by HON Industries. Rodger spent the majority of his working career as a laborer for Local Union #309. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served and volunteered in many different roles. He loved helping and giving to people. With his compassionate, caring heart, he was never one to turn down the opportunity to help his neighbors, family or friends. Rodger was an avid outdoorsman; especially enjoying mushroom hunting, duck hunting, fishing and boating. Outside of his time spent working, volunteering and caring for others, Rodger’s greatest love and enjoyment was his family - especially his grandchildren. Rodger and Diana both retired early so that they were both able to spend time with their grandchildren. Rodger was well known for always being there for anything involving the grandchildren – whether it was attending an activity, chauffeuring, reading books, playing, swimming or just being there when they needed him.
Rodger will be deeply missed by his wife, Diana; children, Tom Broderson of Muscatine, Susan Armstrong of Blue Grass, Michelle Berns of Moscow, Donna Berger of Muscatine, Andy (Melissa Hazelwood) Broderson of Muscatine and Beth (Matt) Foor of Muscatine; grandchildren, Rhythm Rice, Timothy Berger, Karolyn Broderson, Rebecca Brewer, Jocelyn Curtis, Halley Berger, Kallie Broderson, Ayden Berns, Ethan Berns and Drew Broderson; great-grandson, Jesse Brewer V; mother-in-law, Beverly Mason of Washington; siblings, Gary (Kathy) Broderson of Muscatine, Carl A. (Regena) Broderson, Jr. of Muscatine, Judy Qualls Rivera of Muscatine and Terry (Tom) Gorsuch of Wilton; in laws, Jeff (Gwen) Martin, Susan (Greg) Blair, Tom (Carla) Martin, Matt Martin and Harry (Rachael) Martin.
Rodger was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Toni Quandt; father-in-law, H. Frank Martin and nephew, William Martin.
