Rickey Snyder Obituary

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Rickey Dean Snyder, age 77, at his home on October 21, 2025, after a long illness.

Rick was born on August 16, 1948 in Muscatine, Iowa to Vernon and Joyce (Fountain) Snyder.  He graduated from Columbus Junction High School, class of 1966, where he played football. Rick grew up in Fredonia, Iowa. He and his wife later settled in Fruitland where they raised their two children. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.

Rick’s career as a Kirby vacuum salesman was marked by hard work, but he was just as well known for his sense of humor, his love of playing cards, and his intense rivalry with the Iowa Hawkeyes (a rivalry he never tired of). He enjoyed trips to the casino, always hoping for a lucky streak, and there was rarely a time when he wasn’t ready to share a laugh or a good story with family and friends.

Rick had a well-documented fondness for junk food, often indulging at all hours of the day. He was particularly notorious for feeding his grandchildren Hostess Cakes for breakfast, a tradition that became a beloved ritual for the little ones and a source of endless laughter. Whether it was candy, chips, or whatever sweet treat he could get his hands on, Rick never passed up the chance to share it with those he loved.

He is survived by his children, Mike (Amanda) Snyder of Muscatine and Amber (James) Healey of Bettendorf; his brother, Craig (Julie) Snyder; his grandchildren, Kelsey (Jordan) Terrill, Hayden Snyder, Ryan (Emily) Healey, and Hannah Healey; his six great-grandchildren, Connor, Elizabeth, Colton, Noah, Preston, and Melody; his friend Susan Hathaway; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon “Ham” Snyder; his mother, Joyce Snyder; his brother, Steve “Fuzzy” Snyder; and his wife of 55 years, Marilyn (Dillavou) Snyder.

Rick’s legacy will live on through the love, laughter, and memories he left behind. From his love of cards to his joy of spoiling his grandkids with sweets, Rick made life sweeter for all of us. He will be missed for his quick wit, his big heart, and his ability to turn any moment into one full of laughter—and, of course, for his uncanny ability to sneak in a sweet snack at any time of day.

A private family celebration of Rick’s life will be held at a later date.  Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Muscatine is assisting the family.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com
