Raul "Ruly" Martinez Sr.

Raul “Ruly” E. Martinez Sr., 84, of Conesville, passed away Monday, September 11, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Columbus Junction.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Louisa County Fairgrounds Youth Center.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the family in memory of Ruly. Raul Martinez was born July 17, 1939 in Big Springs, TX, the son of Evaristo “Papa” and Juana “Mama” (Enriquez) Martinez.  He attended San Felipe High School in Del-Rio, TX.  On December 16, 1978, he was united in marriage to Rebecca “Becky” Dilts in Conesville.

Ruly worked for Rath Packing for 18 years and also built hog confinements, bridges and other construction projects. He then worked for Fru-Con Construction until his retirement in 2001. Ruly loved working for different farmers around Conesville in the evenings and still worked for Tom Bell in the summers.  He loved hunting, fishing and playing pool.  He enjoyed mowing his lawn and took great pride in its appearance.  

Ruly will be deeply missed by his wife, Becky; son, Ruly (Stacie) Martinez Jr.; adopted son, Rex Solomon; grandchildren, Derek (Elyssa) Martinez, Dezaray “Dezi” Martinez and her special friend, Robbie Rich; great-grandchildren, Kami, Kaylyn and Easton; special friends, the Sons of Silence, Belinda  Ponce, Marcus Mercado and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ignacio and Ramon and sister, Rachel.
