Randall J. “Randy” Whitsel, 71, of Columbus Junction, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at the Washington County Hospital. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday, February 2nd from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm at the Victory Christian Center in Columbus Junction. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 3rd 10:30 am with visitation from 9:00 am -10:00 am at the Victory Christian Center in Columbus Junction. His remains will be placed at a later time in White Oak Cemetery in Trenton, IA.

Randy was born July 8, 1952 in Wabash, Indiana, the son of Gilbert “Gib”, Jr. and Marian (McKibben) Whitsel. He attended Elmhurst High School in Ft. Wayne, IN and graduated from Huntington College. Randy married Cheryl Packer in 1972 and they raised four children moving from Indiana to Michigan, Kansas, and Iowa serving a number of churches through their ministry with the Missionary Church. His children have fond memories of camping trips, hiking, and travelling all over the country visiting national parks and monuments in over 40 states. He later divorced. He was married to Patti K. Whitsel from 1996 until her death in 2010. Randy was united in marriage to Mary Beth (Bonnichsen) Carey on November 1, 2011 in Maui, Hawaii.

Randy worked as a salesman and pastored many churches in various states. He most recently worked in health insurance sales for Aflac. He enjoyed boating on the Mississippi River, photography and was an avid student of American history. Randy enjoyed Bluegrass and Gospel music. Randy loved the outdoors, especially admiring a beautiful sunset, and observing nature.

Randall will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his wife, Mary Beth Carey of Columbus Junction; son, Christopher Whitsel (Eric Espinoza) of Moorhead, MN; son, Philip (Amanda) Whitsel of Canton, MI; daughter, Rachel Whitsel of Washington, IA; son, Casey Whitsel of FL; step children Joshua (Kiley) Hinkle, Solon, IA and Cally (Jeremiah) Schlee, Winfield, IA; and grandchildren; father, Gib Whitsel, 97, of Columbus Junction, IA; brothers: Tim (Carol) Whitsel of Eugene, OR and Benjamin (Jeanie) Whitsel of Ft. Wayne, IN; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marian Whitsel and wife, Patti Whitsel.
