Phyllis Lorraine Stineman, 92, of Grandview, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023 at Addington Place in Muscatine. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at the Grandview Community Bible Church in Grandview, where the family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Burial will follow the services at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Grandview Community Bible Church the University of Iowa Center for Advancement Cystic Fibrosis. Phyllis Lorraine Wright was born June 11, 1931 in Morning Sun, Iowa, the daughter of Gay and Mildred (Springsteen) Wright. She grew up on a farm out in the country where she loved climbing mulberry trees, getting together with the neighborhood kids and roaming the town freely. Her father owned a roller rink and she could often be found there having a blast. She attended school in Morning Sun. She was united in marriage to Warren Stineman on September 6, 1952 in Morning Sun.
Phyllis was the head cook for 8 years and the elementary secretary for 25 years at Louisa-Muscatine School. She also owned and managed the Parkview Apartments in Grandview and helped her husband farm. She was a faithful member of the Grandview Community Bible Church where she taught Sunday School and Awanas. Phyllis also served on the Christian Education Board, music committee and was the hospitality chairman and the missionary secretary. Phyllis was a member of the Grandview Community Club, served as the President and program committee chairman in the Grandview Federated Club and was a member of the Louisa County Historical Society.
Phyllis was a woman of many talents. She was a member of the Midwest Country Cloggers and performed at town celebrations, nursing homes and the Iowa State Fair. She and Warren were Grand Marshalls at the Grandview 4th of July Parade. She received a certificate of appreciation from Governer Vilsack in 2000 for recognition for service as a state of Iowa Resident Advocate Volunteer and certificates of appreciation from the Southeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging, Inc. She was also named Iowan of the Year in 2010. She enjoyed flea markets, decorating and antiquing with her family
She will be deeply missed by her children: John Collett of Grandview; Cindy (Ken) Miller of Blue Grass; and Debbie Stineman of Des Moines; grandchildren: Mindi (Cliff), Bob (Sheryl), McKenzy, Alyx (Nick), Dachary and Kyanja; great-grandchildren: Amy, Joel, Jacob, Brooke, Sophie, Blake and Charlotte Lorraine; siblings: Karen Hollingsworth of Mediapolis; Ruthi (James) Oetken of Lexington, KY; and Ed Wright of Morning Sun; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Warren; daughter-in-law, Beverly; granddaughter, Shannon; and great-grandson, Carver.
