Phyllis Rae Cruz, 84, of Muscatine, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at her home. Private visitation and funeral services will be held at a later date. Phyllis Rae Nichol was born on November 1, 1940 in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of John H. and Mina M. (Boss) Nichol. On May 12, 1973, Phyllis was united in marriage to German R. Cruz in Rock Island, Illinois. Phyllis worked for HJ Heinz in Muscatine for 16 years. She was a past member of the 1st Assembly of God. Phyllis enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, doing puzzles, playing cards, shopping and thrifting.
Phyllis will be deeply missed by her children, Bobbie (Leo) Shampu of Muscatine, Donna Phillips of Muscatine, Donald Davis of Muscatine, Connie (Scott) Dueming of Norwood, Missouri and Christina (Alberto) Rosa of Muscatine; sister, Marilyn Gregg of Chesnee, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Arlene Nichol of Greenville, Illinois; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren and trusted friend, Harley David.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, German Cruz; son, Buddy Davis; grandson, Enrique Rivera; great granddaughter, Hayden James; brother, John “Jack” Nichol, Jr.; son-in-law, Steven Phillips; brother-in-law, Edward Gregg and her best friend, Alta Cruz.
