Phillip Edwin Brockert was born on August 15, 1936, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Marie (Finley) Brockert. On November 23, 1956 he was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Canarr in Muscatine. Phil retired from HNI after 38 years of employment. He enjoyed everything to do with horses and on the first Monday of the month, he attended the Kalona Horse auction. Phil was a fan of stock car races and Westerns, especially Gunsmoke. He was the rock of the family, if anyone needed anything, he was the first one they called. A hardworking and dependable man, even in retirement he would stay busy “junking” old appliances. Most of all, Phil enjoyed spending time with his family.
Phil will be deeply missed by his wife, Ruth Ann; his children, Connie (Andy McKillip) Payton of Muscatine, Randy (Tricia) Brockert of Hills and Lori (Sid) Martin of Muscatine; grandchildren, Tara Payton, Sara (Brad) Utter and Alicia Brockert; great-grandchildren; Ashlynn, Zoe, Cayden and Miles; siblings, Dave Brockert, Charlie (Nadine) Brockert and Lucille LaRue.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James and Thomas; sisters, Marion, Dorothy, Pauline, Lois and Evelyn; granddaughter, Kendra Krueger.
