Patrick "Pat" Egan passed away January 12, 2026, at the age of 79 at the University of Iowa Hospital. Pat, the fifth of the ten children of the late William and Maxine Egan of Mediapolis, was born April 20, 1946.
Pat was the love child of the family. He became very ill as a toddler and as result, the illness left Pat partially paralyzed and mentally challenged. This did not change Pat’s loving personality. He was the first to greet folks by their name. Pat was well loved by everyone, especially growing up in the Northfield Street neighborhood as he was known to visit the neighbors on a daily basis. The family was very proud of Pat as he won many trophies and ribbons in the Special Olympics of years past and the crafts that he created at summer camps.
Survivors include siblings Judith Kerr (Melvin) of Macomb, Il, Katie Ford of Alpine, CA, Joan Beauvais of Oceanside, CA, Dan (Lynn) Egan and Terry Egan of Burlington and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bill and Mike and sisters Julia and Mary.
A Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at St. Mary’s Dodgeville with Father Jay Harrington, Pat’s cousin, officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the Mass from 9:00 –11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Kossuth Cemetery Association PO Box 670 Mediapolis, IA 52637. Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Mediapolis is in care of the arrangements. Following the service, friends are invited to the St. Mary's Church Parish Hall for a luncheon; family will join friends following the private interment at Kossuth Cemetery.
