Mildred “Corky” Swick, 94, of Muscatine, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Lutheran Living. Private burial will be held in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023 at New Hope United Methodist Church. Following the memorial service, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church. Mildred “Corky” L. Schmelzer was born on May 31, 1929 in Muscatine, the daughter of George W. and Genevieve (Farrand) Schmelzer. Corky was a graduate of Muscatine High School. On March 6, 1948, she was united in marriage to Richard Swick in Muscatine. Corky worked with her father in the family business, Schmelzer Grocery and she also did income tax /bookkeeping. She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church and Women of the Moose. She enjoyed swimming, camping, boating, playing, cards and sewing. She was an avid painter. Corky’s greatest love was the blessing of five special daughters and three special boys.
Corky will be missed by her special daughter, Sherry Holliday; her special boys, Ronald (Cindy) Ziehl, Troy (Bridgette) Holliday and Steven Holliday, all of Muscatine; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Dennis (Elaine) Saunders of Branson, Missouri and their children, Shawn and Greg; along with many extended family and friends.
Corky was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Richard on January 19, 2012; sister, Darlene in infancy; sister, Georgann Wheeler; step-father, Clarence “Red” Saunders and sister-in-law, Wanda Martin.
