Mildred Huston Obituary

Mildred Hartsock Huston, 96, of Wapello, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2020, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 2020 at Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Wapello, formerly the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.  The family will not be present for visitation.  Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2020 at the Wapello Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Great River Hospice House or the Wapello Rescue Unit.  Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.

Mildred Race was born on January 24, 1924 in Hillsdale, New York, the daughter of Robert and Viola (Minkler) Race.  On December 22, 1946, Mildred was united in marriage to John Hartsock in Hudson, New York.     He preceded her on February 10, 1981.  Mildred later married Harold Huston on December 13, 1986 at the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri.  Harold preceded her in death on November 30, 2000.  Mildred was a homemaker who babysat for many children in the Wapello area, she was known as grandma to many of those children.  Mildred was a member of the Wapello United Methodist Church and Women’s Auxiliary.  She was very talented with her hands, making many things from her talents of sewing, knitting, crocheting and embroidery.   One of the things she was most honored to make were angels for families of the Great River Hospice House. 

Mildred will be deeply missed by her sons, Terry (Brenda) Hartsock of Houma, Louisiana and Randy Hartsock of Solon; grandchildren, Eric Hartsock, Erin Beattie and Beau Hartsock; great-grandson, Drake Beattie; sister-in-law, Ruth Kerr of Wapello and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. 

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands and two brothers, Floyd and Howard Race.
