Merle Yakle

Merle Yakle, 68, of Wapello, passed away on Friday, February 5th, 2021 at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.   Memorials have been established for the Odessa Chapter Ducks Unlimited or Louisa County Izaak Walton.   Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.

Merle Lee Yakle was born on February 23, 1952 in Muscatine, the son of Bill and Jo Anne (Morris) Yakle.  Merle graduated from Wapello High School in 1970 and farmed alongside his dad for many years.  He also bartended part-time at the Dugout and Tommy’s Tap, worked for the Farmer’s Elevator and Farm Store and was a truck driver for several farmers, retiring from Thomas Trucking.  Merle was a long-standing member of the Odessa Chapter Ducks Unlimited, where he also served on many committees.  He was highly involved with the Louisa County Fair for many years and also had involvement with the local FFA and 4-H chapters.  Merle enjoyed all outdoor activities especially hunting, fishing, and trap shooting. He was known as a great storyteller and never knew a stranger.

Merle will be missed by his dog, Britt and many family and friends. 

Merle was preceded in death by his parents.
