Maynard G. Rayner

Maynard G. Rayner, 90, of Hills, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Atrium Village in Hills.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. with a 4:00 p.m. Rosary Service at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Lone Tree.  A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026, at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hills.  Following the service, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church.  Graveside services will be held at the Lone Tree Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026, with military honors.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Maynard.  Online condolences may be left at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.

Maynard George Rayner was born on June 9, 1935, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of George W. and Frances L. (May) Rayner.  He was a graduate of Lone Tree High School.  Maynard proudly served his country in the United States Army from January 1958 – October 1959, being stationed in Germany.  On April 17, 1961, Maynard was united in marriage to Elizabeth Lou Klein at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City.  He worked for various construction companies in the Iowa City area, including Knutson and Mid-America Construction, constructing many large buildings at the University of Iowa.  Maynard was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hills and the Laborers’ Union Local 1238.  He enjoyed cutting firewood, fishing, motorcycling, camping, scrapping metal, building many out buildings on the farm and was a farrier.  Maynard knew no stranger and enjoyed conversation.

Maynard will be deeply missed by his wife, Betty of Hills, his children, Patricia (Clark) Wagner of Westfield, Wisconsin, David (Becky) Rayner of Royal, Iowa and Mary Rayner of Deephaven, Minnesota; grandchildren, Alex Rayner, Sam (Abby) Rayner, Hannah (Jim) Wagner, Caitlin (Jeremy) Wagner, Tori (John) Labernik, Emma (Andrew) Wild, Lily Wagner, Colin Rayner and Peyton Rayner; great-grandchild, Oliver Wild; brother, Donald (Jean) Rayner of North Liberty; sister-in-law, Janice Rayner of Iowa City and many nieces and nephews.

Maynard was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ronald and Gerald Rayner.
