Martha Darlene Huff, 87, of Marengo, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo under St. Croix Hospice after a short illness. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on September 3, 2021 at Lone Tree Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a favorite charity in memory of Martha. Martha was born on March 19, 1934, she was the fourth child and daughter of Joseph Louis and Orpha May Marie (VanderLinden) Huff. She attended a country school near Nichols, IA for grade school and her High School years were spent at Lone Tree High School in Lone Tree, IA, where she graduated in 1952.
On Wednesday, November 11, 1953 she became united in marriage to Timothy Francis Colbert of Riverside, IA at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nichols, IA. Tim and Martha moved to Riverside, IA and the couple had one daughter and four sons, that they raised together.
Before divorcing Tim Colbert on August 25, 1988, Martha had been a daughter, sister, wife, mother, babysitter of other children and was a housekeeper at the University of Iowa Hospital for many years.
Her most coveted role was trying to be a servant of the Lord, for those who had no others.
Martha moved into Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo, IA on Thursday, May 7, 2020 where it was her turn to be served. She was very grateful for all the staff at R.H.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Orpha and Joe Huff; four sisters, Jean Bishop, Beverly Davidson, Shirley McReynolds, Mary Lou Beeler; ex-husband, Tim Colbert and son, Phil Colbert.
Surviving Martha are her daughter, Yvonne (Rob) Bickel of Marengo, IA; sons, Mark (Brenda) Colbert of Iowa City, IA; Paul (Deb Meyer) Colbert of Cedar Rapids, IA and Mike Colbert of Iowa City, IA; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Gorla and Joann Jackson; brother, Ed Huff and her special friend, Chester H. Rhodes.
