Mark Van Auken Obituary

Mark Van Auken, age 77, of Fruitland, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022 at his residence. Private services and interment will be held at Indian Creek Cemetery at a later date.  Memorials may be directed to the Fruitland Fire and Rescue in Mark’s name or sent to the family in c/o Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Muscatine. Mark was born June 15, 1944 at home in Toddtown, Iowa the son of Howard B. and Fern Z. (Diller) Van Auken. He graduated from Columbus Junction High School and served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1962-1968. He was stationed at Lakeland AFB, Amarillo AFB, OSAN AFB in Korea, McChord AFB and in the 6314 Civil Engineer Squad, PAGAP. Mark was united in marriage to Ann J. Wilson on August 15, 1969 in Grandview, Iowa.

Mark worked for Grain Processing Corp for 35 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Allen Wright Hanoft Post and the VFW Post in Columbus Junction. He was a past member of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union and the Distillery Union. Mark was an avid deer hunter, fisherman, mushroom hunter and gardener. He was obsessed with his lawn upkeep and loved the outdoors, animals and spending time with his kids.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Ann Van Auken; sons: Jonathan Mark and Jason Michael Van Auken; grandchildren; Annabelle and Braedyn Van Auken and special little one, Caden Kahl; many nieces and nephews; special nephews, Mark A. VanAuken and Randy McCray; special friends, Dave and Carolyn Thompson, Russ and Cindy Hake, Mike and Sherri Boynton; and sisters-in-law: Pat Van Auken, Elizabeth Van Auken, Patty Van Auken and Cathy (Craig) Stelzner; and brother-in-law, Fred III (Pat) Wilson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Burton Gene, Billy Dewayne, Charles William and James Elsey Van Auken; sister, Edna Mae Powers; in-laws, Paul Powers, Betty Jo Van Auken, Betty R. Van Auken; mother and father-in-law, Fred and Jeanette Wilson; and all of his aunts and uncles.
