Mark Martin, 68, of Las Vegas, New Mexico, formerly of Morning Sun, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in Burlington. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Mark’s name. Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com. Mark Lee Martin was born on April 25, 1955 in Nebraska, the son of Warren and “Emmy” (McDonald) Martin. He graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1973 and later received his BSN in nursing. Mark was married to Roxanne Wheeler in 1975. They were married for 29 years and later divorced. Mark was an EMT in Morning Sun for many years. He was a truck driver and later a traveling nurse, working at various facilities, most recently at Guadalupe County Correctional Facility in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. Mark enjoyed gardening, raising chickens and rabbits, his plants, reading, anything to do with Star Trek, cheering on the Green Bay Packers and watching his favorite shows, including MASH and the Big Bang Theory.
Mark will be deeply missed by his fiancé, Darlene Padilla of Las Vegas, NM; children, Megan (Francisco) Silva of Morning Sun; Jeremy Martin of Fort Madison; grandchildren, Adrian, Riley (Maggie), Nayareli, Dalton, Dakota and Sadie; great-grandbaby, Filipe; and sisters, Bonnie Kaye Martin of Burlington and Beth Martin of Morning
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Jack Wheeler.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to the Morning Sun Class of 1973. With their generous donations and donations from family and friends, Mark was able to travel back to Morning Sun to spend his final time with his family.
