Marilyn Ann (Hadler) Vierling

Marilyn Ann Vierling, 93, of Mediapolis, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at the Klein Center in West Burlington. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025 at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation of Mediapolis, where the family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Friday morning. Burial will be held at Kossuth Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice or the Mediapolis Ambulance Service. Marilyn was born on September 20, 1931 in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Albert Anton and Clara Anna (Miller) Hadler. On September 24, 1950 she married William (Bill) Vierling at Latty Church. They were married for 52 wonderful years until his death in 2002.

She graduated from Huron High School and attended Burlington Junior College. She worked for a time at Sylvania in Burlington and later in life for the Mediapolis Community School as a secretary for the superintendent. But for most of her life she was a loving devoted farm wife and homemaker.

Marilyn excelled at cooking and sewing, even making her son’s prom suit. She put these skills to good use as a long time 4-H leader for the Huron Peppy Pals. She was even called on to judge home economic projects at the Des Moines Co. Fair.

Marilyn enjoyed yard work, gardening, cooking family meals, sewing for friends and family, knitting, golfing, playing games and cards, watching all kinds of sports, coffee on her back porch and especially time with her family. She used her knitting skills to knit Christmas stockings for her son, daughter-in-law, five grandkids and nine great-grandchildren.

Marilyn was a member of the Mediapolis Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Mariners group, Golden Hour Study Club, Indian Hills Country Club and a 50-year member of the Mediapolis Chapter TTT.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; brothers: Richard, Robert, Ronald and Roger Hadler; and niece, Stephanie Hadler.

She will be deeply missed by her son Jeff, daughter-in-law Debra, grandchildren: Christopher Vierling, Andrea Gregory, Elizabeth Harvey, Benjamin Vierling and Emily Reid; great-grandchildren: Bailey, Mia, Elise, Dexter, Augustus, Phoebe, Violet, Greta and Walter; nine nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law: Virginia Miller, Sherree Whitten and Kay Vierling; and brother-in-law, Loren Miller.
