Lyle “Termite” Gillette, 71, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Wapello, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation for Lyle will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Wapello. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun. Lyle G. Gillette was born on September 23, 1949, in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Donald “Dutch” and Helen (Partington) Gillette. He was a graduate of Wapello High School. Lyle worked for the Wapello High School as a janitor for 43 years. He enjoyed working on race cars, going to 34 Raceway with his nephews, playing pool and watching pool, feeding cats and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt Sr.
Lyle will be deeply missed by his caregiver and sister, Doris Crouch of Danville and caregiver and niece, Peggy (Doug) Fraise of Danville, siblings, Terry (Carol) Gillette of Wapello, Linda (Alan) Giese of Morning Sun, Shirley Lott of Wapello, Peggy Leonard of Battle Creek, Michigan and Ann Perry of Grand Rapids, Michigan and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Darlene Stott and brothers, Robert Gillette, Donnie Gillette and Keith Gillette.
