Lyle Alberding Obituary

Lyle Alberding, 77, of Muscatine, passed away peacefully with family on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at his home from post-polio syndrome.  Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Noon at New Hope United Methodist Church.  Visitation will be on Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.  Memorials may be left to New Hope United Methodist Church or It Takes A Village Animal Rescue and Resources in Muscatine.  Per Lyle’s request, if you would like to send a flower, please no red roses or lilies. Lyle Christian Alberding was born on August 13, 1945 in Rensselaer, IN the son of Christian and Martha (Reed) Alberding.  He had polio when he was 6 months old and didn’t walk until he was 4.  On February 14, 1987, he and Elaine Colborn became legal lovers in Rensselaer, IN. Lyle worked at HON from 1975 until his retirement in 2010.  He was a very active member of New Hope Church, Scout Master and helped with the Special Olympics.  He enjoyed flying, receiving his pilots license in 1989.  He was an excellent cook.  Most of all, he loved taking care of his wife and being with his family.

Lyle will be deeply missed by his legal lover, Elaine of Muscatine; children, Kyle (Kayla) Alberding and Cill (Scott) Brown, both of Muscatine; step-children, Matt Thomas and Rich (Sherry) Thomas, both of Muscatine; step-daughter, Robbye (Keith) Mowry of New Boston;  grandchildren,  Adalynn Alberding, Caden Brown, Corbin Brown, Maddox Brown, Everly Brown, Rylah Brown, Molly (Martin) Barnhart and Emily (Jesse) Wetzel; great-grandchildren, Hunter Thomas, Karalynn and Evy Wetzel, Emma and Rylie Barnhart and a great-grandson coming in March; brother, Dr. Emil (Lynn) Alberding of Kalamazoo, MI; special cousins, Barb Harper and Bobby’s sister, Carol Hoon, both of Remington, IN; sisters-in-law, Simone Alberding and Tylka Alberding; brothers-in-law, Dwight (Daya) Colborn and Dave Colborn and many nieces and nephews.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Esther; brothers, Thomas, Steven and John Alberding; sister, Jill Alberding; sister-in-law, Marcia Walters and brother-in-law, Mark Colborn.

The family would like to thank the hospice team from Unity Point Trinity.  They were truly an amazing, loving, and caring group of people who made this point in the family’s life journey easier and comforting.
