Lydia Vela (Perez) Martinez

Lydia Vela Martinez, 87 of Muscatine passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022, at Lutheran Living in Muscatine. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Muscatine.  A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Lydia.  Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.

Lydia Vela Perez was born August 4, 1935, in Los Fresnos, Texas, the daughter of Pablo Perez Sr. and Virginia Perez.  Lydia was united in marriage to Ernesto Martinez in 1960, he preceded her in death.  She worked at Heinz for 22 years, retiring in 1990.  Lydia enjoyed fishing, boat rides, cooking and was a lover of all animals.  Most of all, she loved being with her family.

Lydia will be deeply missed by her children, Domingo Martinez and Linda (Kevin Plowman) Besick, all of Muscatine; grandson Joshua (Courtney) Besick; great-granddaughter, Zoey Besick, both of Clinton; siblings, Francisco Perez of Illinois and Domingo Perez of Kingsville, TX; sister-in-law, Benilde Perez of Bettendorf.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; brother, Pablo Perez Jr; sisters, Benarda Gonzales, Minnie Manthe; brother-in-law, Milo Manthe and sister-in-law, Josephine Perez.
