Lois Mae Bliven, age 90, of Iowa City went home to be with the Lord on July 21, 2022 following a brief illness. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2022, at the Columbus City Cemetery. Hospice Chaplin, Kirk Statler, will officiate. Following the graveside services, a time of fellowship and snacks will be held at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Community Room at the funeral home. Lois (nicknamed Babe by her sister, Gloria) was born to Eunice Delcia (Stout) and Raleigh Dean Barber, Sr. on July 24, 1931 at home in Wilton Junction. The family moved to Columbus Junction where she graduated from high school. She was united in marriage to Harold Leroy Bliven on December 2, 1950. He passed away on October 3, 1978.
Lois worked at the US Postal Service for 26 years in Columbus Junction and retired as Postmaster in Columbus City in 1992. After retiring she moved to Iowa City. Lois loved to cook and bake, especially pies, enjoyed traveling, being with friends, reading, sewing and her cats. She was an avid Cubs fan and spent many days cheering on the Cubs at Wrigley Field. She was a member of the Iowa City Church of Christ.
Lois is survived in this world by her children, Kirk of Columbus Junction, Kyla (Lyle) Spitznogle of Wapello, Kent (Kathleen) of North Liberty and Kyle of Iowa City; grandchildren, Eric of Iowa City, Erin (Kevin) Bush of New London, Dustin (Paula) Bliven of New London and Benjamin of North Liberty; great grandchildren, Conner, Caleb and Carsyn Bush and Breck and Brynn Bliven all of New London; brother, Dave (Dau) Barber of Hawaii; friends and caretakers, Kathy (Don) Stecher of Iowa City, Mitzie Popejoy of Iowa City and Linda Carlson of Tipton and several nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Gloria Oliver and brothers, Raleigh Dean Barber, Jr. and Howard.
