Leland J. Hanson

Leland J. Hanson, 75, of Muscatine, died Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Sunny Brook in Muscatine. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 2, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Saint Mathias Catholic Church in Muscatine. Father Chris Weber will officiate. Casket bearers will be Jeff Finn, Gary Whitacre, Norbert Loos, Harold Loos, Andrew Hanson and Charles Hanson. Honorary casket bearers will be Steve Garvin, Joseph Schaapveld, Robert Schaapveld and Tom Hoopes. Burial will be held at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Churdan, Iowa on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation for Leland will be held on Sunday, August 1, 2021 from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to Saints Mary and Mathias Catholic Church and the Muscatine County Conservation Foundation in Leland’s name. Leland J. Hanson was born on March 26, 1946, the son of Donald J. and Phyllis J. (Mitchell) Hanson. On June 22, 1968 Leland was united in marriage to Virginia K. Ryan in Churdan, Iowa until her passing in 2007. On July 11, 2011 Leland was united in marriage to Patrice W. Goberville in Lake Mills, WI. Leland was a graduate of Churdan High School and Iowa State University. He was employed by Central State Bank in Muscatine for over 30 years.                                                            

Leland enjoyed the outdoors and spent countless hours cutting firewood, gardening, maintaining his property and fishing. Leland was also active in the Muscatine community and served with multiple organizations, including the Muscatine Board of Conservation and the YMCA. 

Leland will be deeply missed by his wife, and his family, David J. Hanson and his wife, Carrie of Charlotte, NC; John M. Hanson and his wife, Kristin of Marion, Iowa; JT Goberville and his wife Jaime of Lake Bluff, IL and Ellie Pigford and her husband Jon of Wilmington, NC; 8 grandchildren, Andrew, Allison, Kylie, Charlie, Kira, Brady, Blake and Peekaboo; sister, Deborah Cave of Gold Canyon, AZ and faithful dog Fritz. Leland was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Virginia and his sister, Candace Burnell.
