Leah Marie Verrips was born on September 15, 1943 in Conesville, Iowa, the daughter of John and Ethel (Boyd) Verrips. Leah was a 1963 graduate of Wapello High School. On January 18, 1964, Leah married Kermit K. Peterson in Wapello. They had two children and later divorced. On October 31, 1992 Leah was united in marriage to Ward Crumly in Davenport. Leah worked at various jobs including the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in West Burlington, as a waitress at the Tomahawk Restaurant in Wapello, worked alongside her mother-in-law at Ainsworth Corners and retired from the Louisa County Home. After retirement, Leah and Ward enjoyed “working” at the Coralville Lake and spending time with friends at their winter home in Texas. Leah was a great homemaker who enjoyed gardening, reading, flowers and cooking; which she was very good at. She was a past member of the Wapello Presbyterian Church and a ten-year breast cancer survivor. Above everything Leah’s family of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the world to her.
Leah will be deeply missed by her husband, Ward Crumly of Grandview; her children, Kermit L. (Carolyn) Peterson of Wapello and William “Bill” Peterson of Wausau, Wisconsin; Ward’s children, Gary Crumly of Muscatine, Kyle (Heather Lanfier) Crumly of Grandview and Amanda Crumly of Muscatine; grandchildren, Derrick (Cary) Peterson, Desiree Peterson, Danielle (Christian Morales) Peterson, Andrew Peterson, Kayla (Dominique) St. John, Dustin (Tasia Behnke) Crumly, Joslin Crumly, Corbin (Ashlyn Defrieze) Burns; great-grandchildren, Dorian, Ethan, Ronan, Gavin and Elena Peterson and Addison and Ella St. John and siblings, Edwin (Flo) Verrips of Mt. Pleasant and Elaine Johnson of Wapello.
Leah was preceded by her parents; her first husband, Kermit K. Peterson and granddaughter, Daphne Crumly.
