Layton McDonald Obituary

Layton McDonald, 58, of Keokuk, passed away on November 4, 2021 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 12, 2021 at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Columbus Junction.  Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at the VFW on 609 Hollywood Blvd Suite 2, Iowa City, IA 52240. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Layton. Online condolences may be left at www.sandhfuneralservice.com. 

Layton Otho McDonald was born June 28, 1963 in Muscatine, the son of Otho and Eileen (Cline) McDonald Jr.  He was united in marriage to Kathie Kosgard on October 24, 1981 at the Methodist Church in Columbus City.  The couple later divorced.  Layton was a mechanic at Master Muffler in Muscatine, then White Implement in Fredonia and later drove a semi for Hahn Trucking.  He owned and operated County Line Repair for many years.  He last worked for MAS Mechanics in Iowa City.  Layton was a self-proclaimed “Gear Head”, he loved fixing, building and racing cars.  Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Layton will be deeply missed by his children, Jacklyn Ann (William) McDonald-Mann of Iowa City, Layton Bradley (Kyrie) McDonald of Siskiyou County, CA, Eric Nathan (Kylie) McDonald of Delta, Austin Levi McDonald-Snakenberg of Iowa City, Sommer Lynette (John) Lemley of Omaha, NE;  grandchildren, Astoria, Brayton, Jamuna, Nathan, Landon, Lillian, Kayden, Evan, Levi, Briella and Autumn; father, Otho McDonald Jr. of Fredonia; sister, Sheila (Kenny) Eckrich of Iowa City; brother, Heath (Cindy) McDonald of Fredonia; love of his life, Patty Gabel of Keokuk and many nieces , nephews and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother and Aunt, Rena Marling.
