Kent Baxter Obituary

Kent Arlin Baxter, 78 of Muscatine, Iowa, left us to be with our Lord and Savior on January 5th, 2024.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, possibly Spring or Summer of 2024.  The Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Service of Morning Sun is caring for the family.  Please leave online condolences and receive updates on the service at  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Muscatine Humane Society in memory of Kent.

Kent was born to Kenneth and Elizabeth (Horn) Baxter, on September 2, 1945 in Burlington, Iowa and was raised in Morning Sun, Iowa. Kent was a talented athlete who loved playing football, basketball, baseball, track and he loved hunting and fishing.   Kent was known for his passion for nice cars and good music. Upon graduating high school, Kent married his beautiful bride, Mary Ann McElhinney of Morning Sun, Iowa in 1964 and later moved to Camanche, Iowa

Kent enjoyed a variety of careers, but spent most of his working career on the road driving for various trucking companies, taking pride in putting over a million miles on the road (Ruan, Letica, Musco Lighting). Later in life, Kent settled down in Muscatine Iowa, with his partner Ruby Parsons, who has since passed away. He has resided in Muscatine enjoying the simple things in life, family, friends and watching various sports.

Kent is survived by family from Iowa, Arizona, Missouri, Florida, Virginia to include two children; son, Wade (Megan Murphy Baxter) of Queen Creek Arizona; daughter, Trisha J Baxter of Eldridge, Iowa; brothers, Ronnie (Marilyn) Baxter of DeWitt, Iowa,  Allen (Vicki) Baxter of Chesapeake, Virginia; sister, Connie Malcolm of Rolla, Missouri; grandchildren; Marcus (Allison) Harrington, Dante (Savannah) Harrington, Olivia Young, Nicole (Bryan) Henson, Adriana Baxter, Briggs Baxter, and great-grandchildren; Ryder Patrick McGee, Salem Rose Henson and Aliyah Marie Harrington (March 2024).

Kent was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Elizabeth (Betty).
