Kate Wonders, 84, of Wapello, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025, at her home in Wapello.  Private family services were held and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.    A memorial fund has been established in Kate’s name.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservices.com.   Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Wapello is caring for Kate’s family and her arrangements.

Kathryn Louis Hawn Wonders was born on June 17, 1940 in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of William Roy and Ora (Hughes) Hawn.  Kate graduated from Rockridge High School in Edgington, Illinois in 1958.  She worked at Bishops Buffet in Davenport.  She was a charter member and life time member of the Mississippi Valley Country and Western music association, singing and touring with various country bands and fronting for country stars; Bill Anderson, Dottie West and Roy Clark. 

In 1962 Kate moved to Muscatine, Iowa and worked as a Quality Control Technician until January 23, 1965 when she married Paul Wonders in Buffalo Prairie, Illinois.  Paul and Kate then moved to Wapello where Kate ran a licensed day care center; was active in Cub Scouts, athletic boosters and TOPS.  She also was involved in 4-H for eight years and was a member of the extension council board for four years.  She enjoyed ceramics especially cats and chickens. 

Kate will be deeply missed by her husband of nearly 60 years, Paul; sons, Mark (Chris) Wonders of Wapello, Troy (Mona) Wonders of Washington and Noel Brooks Wonders of Wapello; grandchildren, Alexandria (Matt) Stevens, Aerial Smith, Aaron (Brenna) Wonders, Gates Wonders and Lane Wonders; great-grandchildren, Maylee Smith, Chevy Smith, Hayden Wonders and Emri Wonders and siblings, Mary Lou Long of Iowa City, Ruby Davis of Quad Cities and Wanita Burnes of the Quad Cities. 

Kate was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, James Hawn, John Hawn, William Hawn and Anna Mae Robbins.
