Karen Sue Drinkall was born on September 26, 1961 in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Dorothy (McCullough) Drinkall.  Karen was a graduate of Columbus Community Schools.  She then furthered her education at Iowa Wesleyan College graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and later obtaining her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Missouri.  Karen served as a teacher for over 40 years with the Columbus Community Schools, teaching both Junior High and 5th and 6th graders and retired in May of 2025.  Karen was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Columbus Junction.  She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Kansas City Chiefs fan, loved the show Big Brother and enjoyed going to the casino in Riverside to people watch.    Karen, along with her sister, Beth and their mother, Dorothy were blessed with musical talent and known to many as the “3 D’s”.   Her sister and sister’s family were very dear to Karen.  She always thought of her nephews as her own sons - caring for them and always supporting them in their activities along with their families as they grew older.

Karen will be deeply missed by her sister, Beth (John) Chapin of Muscatine; nephews, Geoff (Maranda) Chapin and Adam (Jennifer) Chapin; great-nephews, Elijah and Connor Chapin and great-niece, Keira Chapin.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved dog, Joey.
