Julie Ann Burk was born on June 23, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Leroy and Marjorie (Karp) Burk. On August 11, 2012, she married the love of her life, Scott Phelps, at Musserville United Methodist Church.

Julie found her greatest purpose in caring for those she loved. She devoted herself to raising her family, creating a home filled with warmth, comfort, and unwavering love. Later, she worked in the food services department at Muscatine General Hospital.

Julie found beauty in life's simple pleasures—tending to her flower gardens, watching hummingbirds, listening to music, and transforming her home into a welcoming place, especially during the Christmas season. She treasured her time lunching, laughing, and sharing stories with her lifelong friends. A loyal Chicago Cubs fan, Julie celebrated every victory and remained hopeful through every season. Above all, she cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and beloved dogs, all of which brought endless joy to her life.

Julie leaves behind a family who will forever treasure her love and the countless memories they share: her devoted husband, Scott Phelps of Muscatine; her children, Joshua (Hazem) Hammann of Elmhurst, IL; Brett Hammann of Fruitland, IA; Kyle (Kristen) Hammann of Marion, IA; Benjamin (Kolby) Hammann of Des Moines, IA; Trisha Phelps of North English, IA; and Derek (Sarah Williams) Phelps of Denver, CO; her cherished grandchildren, Wylie, Waylon, Wrenlee, Tess, Tori, Eleanor, and Coby; her sister, Kathy Burk of Muscatine; and her former daughter-in-law, Merissa Hammann of Wapello, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Marjorie Burk, and her sister, Barb Gross.

Julie will be remembered for the love she gave so freely and the immense kindness with which she lived her life. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
