Joyce Hester

Joyce Hester, 83, of Burlington passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at Prairie Ridge Care Center in Mediapolis.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025 at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Mediapolis.  Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025 at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.  A memorial has been established for the family in Joyce’s name.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservices.com. 

Joyce Gallagher was born on September 25, 1941, the daughter of Gene and Frances (Cronk) Gallagher.  Joyce as a 1959 graduate of Burlington High School.  Joyce was united in marriage to Marvin Eibes and they later divorced.  She then married John Hester and they divorced also.  Joyce was a secretary for Southeastern Community College and Lehigh Lepold.  She was a member of Calvary Church in Burlington. 

Joyce loved spending time with her family and friends.  She enjoyed playing card games with friends and family.  She was also very proud of her granddaughter and great-granddaughter.  She loved her hometown in Burlington.  She was a religious person and attended many churches and congregations over the many years.  Joyce always spoke of and was looking forward to the promises of God and his son Jesus Christ.

Joyce never was a big fan of felines but did obtain one in her later years that met a lot to her; Hannibal the Cat. 

Joyce will be deeply missed by her children, Michele (Kenny) Powell of Wapello and John Hester, Jr.  of Burlington; grandchild, Kira (Randy) McGee; step-grandchildren, Sarah Calvo, Christopher, Nicholas, Tim and John Powell; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jeanie Bolander of Texas, Delores Satler of Burlington, Linda Allely of Alabama, Mary Fanning of Burlington and Susan Philpott of West Burlington and several nieces and nephews. 

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Doris Ghrist and Sandra Bonneson and infant sister, Julie Gallagher.
