John Shafer, 57, of Wapello passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at The University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. Private family burial will be held in Wapello Cemetery. Jonathon R. Shafer was born on July 30, 1966 in Burlington, Iowa the son of Richard and Sandra (Tompkins) Shafer. John enjoyed music, playing his guitar and working on cars.

John will be missed by his children, Stephanie Yerington of Muscatine, Aaron (Cindy) Shafer of Wilton and Brittney (Tyler) Purdy of Muscatine; grandchildren, Lexi, Zoey, Dalton, Riley, Ayden, Mason, Autumn, AeRick, Addalynn, Olivia, Elizabeth and Abigail; step-mother, Debbie Shafer of Wapello; siblings, Mandi (Bobby) Mincer of West Burlington; Brett (Abby) Shafer of Wapello, Brian (Kristin Hagberg) Shafer of Wapello, Charli Shafer of Muscatine and Serah Shafer of Wapello; nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and lifelong friends, Troy McDowell and Mark “Sparky” Stineman.

John was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; son AeRick Shafer and sister, Angela Sutherland.
