John F. Moss

John F. Moss, 86, of Muscatine, passed away peacefully at the UIHC surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 26, 2022.  Visitation will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Muscatine with a 1:00 p.m. Masonic Service.  Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery with full military rites.  A time of food and fellowship will be held at the American Legion following the committal services.  Memorials may be directed to the KAABA Shrine in memory of John.  Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.

John F. Moss was born on July 12, 1936 in Ottumwa Iowa, the son of Paul and Pearl Moss. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1954 and married his High School sweetheart, Anita Ogier in 1955.To this union, four daughters were born. Kathy Lynn, Laura Jean, Marsha Rene and Sandy Kay.  He proudly served in the US Navy from 1954-1958 as a Telecommunications Operator. Following his military service, the family moved to Muscatine where he was employed at Wolverine and Mapco, retiring in 2000 from Bandag.  John was a 50-year member of the Iowa Lodge #2 AF&AM. and was also a member of KAABA Shriners.  John enjoyed reading, the Hawkeyes, gardening, camping, trains and hummingbirds.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Anita “Peach” as he called her; his children, Laura (Andy) Wheeler of Muscatine, Marsha (Jeff) Bradley of Pella and Sandy (Daryl) Hansmeier of Wilton; grandchildren, James (Amber) Healey, Sara (Lenny) Ritchie,  Lucas (Kearston) Wheeler,  Tarin (Brandon) Schneider, Jenny (Brad) Ziegenhorn and Jon Madison; great grandchildren, Ryan (Emily) Healey, Hannah Healey, Liam Wheeler, Gunner Schneider, Zoey Liles, Kyra Liles and Olivia Ziegenhorn; great-great grandchildren, Noah and Preston Healey; siblings, Jack (Teresa) Moss of Bloomfield and Jerry (Sally) Moss of Challis, Idaho and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Kathy Healey; grandson, Tyler Bradley; father and mother-in-law, George and Frances Ogier and sister, Linda (Jerry) Jones.
