Joelle Catherine Marek of Mt. Union, Iowa passed away Monday, October 18, 2021 at her home. Her husband and daughters were with her at the time. Per Joelle’s request, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Winfield is caring for the family. Joelle was born July 22, 1970 in Edina, Minnesota, the second daughter of Robert and Margie (Young) Anderson. On July 30, 1994 she married John C. Marek Jr. at John’s parent’s home in Memphis, Tennessee
Joelle’s middle name was from her grandmother, Harriet C. Anderson. She graduated from Centennial High School in Champaign, Illinois. She was a band member in Junior High and High School. She also marched with the Royal Grenadiers Drum and Bugle Corp from Kankakee, Illinois and at the age of 15 joined the Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corp from Bloomington, Indiana. She enjoyed the competition and seeing different places.
Joelle was a strong and direct women. As a spouse of a military service member, she would often find herself at the head of the household with very little notice. Her strength and love will be missed.
Joelle was a wonderful grandmother to her granddaughter, Brileigh. Although her time was short, she loved every minute of it. She was a fighter to her last day.
Joelle will be deeply missed by her husband, John; two daughters, Catherine (Timmy) Huston of Wapello, Iowa and Melanie Marek of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; granddaughter, Brileigh May Huston; her parents; one sister, Michele (Bruce) Rothbard of Bourbonnais, Illinois; several nieces and nephews and her mother-in-law, Pat Marek of Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her father-in-law, John Marek and two nieces.
