Joan Marie (Huber) Gerling

Joan Gerling, 100, of rural Carman, Illinois, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026 at Oaklane Nursing Home. Private family graveside services will be held in Kossuth Cemetery. Joan Marie Huber was born August 12, 1926 in Columbus Junction. She was the daughter of Roy and June (Oats) Huber.

Joan was a graduate of Columbus Junction High School. She attended college at Drake University and Iowa Wesleyan College. Joan was united in marriage to Roy Gerling on December 21, 1947 in Mediapolis, Iowa. She was a teacher at Mediapolis and Sperry schools, where she later retired from.

Joan was a member of Carman United Methodist Church, Carman-Lomax Senior Citizens, Oaklane Auxiliary, and Henderson County Retired Teachers.

Joan is survived by her niece, Christine (Larry) Cole of Macomb, Illinois.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son; and one brother.
