Joan M. (Schmidt) Crafton

Joan Marjorie Crafton, 87, of Conesville, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at the Simpson Home in West Liberty. 

Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2022 at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Columbus Junction where the family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. Joan was born January 27, 1935 in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Walter P. and Florence A. (Riepe) Schmidt. She graduated from Birmingham High School and received her teaching degree from Parsons College in Fairfield. She went on to graduate from Iowa Wesleyan College. Joan was united in marriage to Clifford D. Crafton on June 3, 1956 in Birmingham, Iowa.

Joan was a teacher for the Columbus Community School District for over 30 years. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. Joan enjoyed quilting, sewing and reading. Her greatest joy came from attending her grandchildren’s activities and spending time with her family.

Joan will be dearly missed by her daughters: Cinthia Forbes of Conesville and Teresa (Jay) MacEachern of Wapello; grandchildren: David (Carrie) Forbes of Columbus Junction; Morgan (Matt) Wagler of Wayland; and Emily (Ben) Brade of Muscatine; great-grandchildren: Bella and Brayden Forbes, Natalie, Nora and Reed Wagler and Lydia Staats; step-great-grandchildren: Zach (Allisa Sims) Guillaume and their children Phoebe, Maverick and Remington; and Colton Guillaume; and sisters: Lucille Milbert of Dawsonville, GA; Karen Smith of Dawsonville, GA; and Linda Ford of Fairfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1999; son-in-law, John Forbes; and three brothers-in-law.
