May 8, 1955 ~ September 15, 2023 (age 68) 68 Years Old
Jerry E. Schlapkohl, 68, of Nichols, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023, at Pioneer Park in Lone Tree. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Lone Tree. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2023 at the Lone Tree American Legion. Following the services, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Nichols Fire and Rescue in memory of Jerry. Jerry Edward Schlapkohl was born on May 8, 1955, in Iowa City, Iowa the son of William Roy and Virginia Irene (Droll) Schlapkohl. He was a 1973 graduate of Columbus Junction Community School. On July 20, 1991, Jerry was united in marriage to Sue LeRette in Lone Tree. Jerry worked in construction for three months, helping to build the Lone Tree Health Care Center and then worked for Continental Telephone Company later known as Contel, GTE, Iowa Telecom and Windstream as a telephone technician for 44 years. He was a member of the Columbus Junction Masonic Lodge and life member of the Riverside VFW Post 6414 as an auxiliary member. Jerry enjoyed the farm, gardening, trap shooting, camping, fishing, hunting, watching sports and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and NASCAR fan.
Jerry will be deeply missed by his wife, Sue of Nichols; his mother, Virginia Schlapkohl of Lone Tree and siblings, Kathy (Steve) Colbert of Riverside, Chris (Randy) Cole of Riverside, Susan (Larry) Schott of Riverside and Teresa Wyatt and friend, Jeff McDowell of Lone Tree and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Bill on September 11, 2023.
