Jerry W. Mapel, 78, of Columbus Junction, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at his home in Columbus Junction. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Columbus Junction with a 7:00 p.m. Masonic Service. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 2, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Cambrian Cemetery with full military rites. Following the committal service at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Columbus Junction American Legion. Jerry Willard Mapel was born on September 4, 1944, in Texarkana, Arkansas the son of Willard and Pearl (Colthorne) Mapel. He was a graduate of Ainsworth High School. Jerry was united in marriage to Sharon Peters on September 15, 1973, in Cotter, Iowa. Jerry was an over the road truck driver, owner and operator pulling for Warren Transport for 30 years and retired from Dickey Transport. He was a member of the Columbus City Masonic Lodge 107, Louisa County Shrine Club, KAABA Shrine and Scottish Rite of Free Masonry 32°. Jerry enjoyed gardening, home repairs and was an avid New England Patriots and NASCAR fan, but most of all, he dearly loved to spend time with his family.
Jerry will be deeply missed by his wife, Sharon of Columbus Junction; his children, Kirk (Karen) Soukup of Middletown, Brad (Tina) Soukup of Muscatine and Darin (Tammy) Mapel of Columbus Junction; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren and one sister, Brenda (Al) Hazelton of Texas.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.
