James “Jay” Bright, 47, of Columbus Junction, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at his home surrounded by family. A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Columbus Junction. Interment will be private. James Edward Bright, Jr. was born October 8, 1974 in Washington, Iowa, the son of James E., Sr. and Sharon Kay (Harris) Bright. He attended school in Columbus Junction. Jay worked as a welder for most of his life and also as a mechanic. He was united in marriage to Tina Vargus on June 27, 2014 in Muscatine.
Jay was a true outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, camping and boating. He enjoyed years of building cars and participating in Demolition Derbies. He also enjoyed his time at the casinos and could often be found tinkering in his garage with a beer in his hand. His greatest joy came from spending time with his children and his granddaughter.
Jay will be deeply missed by his wife, Tina Bright of Columbus Junction, IA; children: Shi Anne Bright (Cody Leader) of Paden, OK; Zack, Sam and Alex Bright, all of Washington, IA; and Dawson Murphy (Gabby Tharp) of Columbus Junction, IA; granddaughter, Kiara Marie Murphy; parents, James Sr., and Sharon Bright of Columbus Junction, IA; sisters: Barb Smith of Riverside, IA and Susan (Rick) Duttlinger of East Alton, IL; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; brother-in-law, Brian Smith; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
