James Johnson Sr. Obituary

James E. Johnson Sr., 74, of Muscatine passed away on Monday, July 18, 2022 at his home in Muscatine. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Service of Muscatine.  Burial will follow the services at Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at the funeral home.  The family requests that everyone wears their favorite trucking attire.  A memorial has been established at the funeral home in memory of James.  Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.    

James E. Johnson was born on March 11, 1948 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of James Alfred and Lila Johanna (Krueger) Johnson Jr.  He served in the United States Army, spending time overseas in Okinawa, Japan.  James graduated from Columbus City Driving School in Ohio and was a truck driver for over 40 years.  His call sign was “Diesel Demon”.  He enjoyed collecting guns, fishing, spending time with his dogs, and cookouts, making his famous ribs.  Most of all he loved spending time with his family.

James will be deeply missed by his children, Keith Nichols, Kimberly Tabor, Christi (Douglas) Damerville and James Johnson Jr., all of Muscatine; grandchildren, James Tabor, Luke (Sydney) Tabor, Zack Nichols, Steven Wilson, Anastasia Nichols, Rebecca (Josh) Miller, Austin Nichols, Sydney (Alex) Estrada, Abbigail (Justin) Wilson, Ryan Nichols, Hunter Johnson and Cassie Johnson; eight great-grandchildren with two more on the way; sister, Kathlene Maylone of Muscatine; sister-in-law, Maria Elena Johnson of San Antonio, TX; special friend, Rose Buller; and her children that he loved as his own, Larry (Crystal) Crees, Trina (McKenzie) Hiller, Victor Miller Jr. and Bruce Miller, all of Muscatine.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alfred Johnson, son-in-law, Ernie Tabor and brother-in-law, Charlie Maylone.
