James Enke

Merle Enke, 93, of Coralville, formerly of Wapello passed away Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Lantern Park.  Due to the current State of Iowa restrictions on social gatherings, private graveside services will be held at Elmwood Cemetery.  Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Wapello, formerly The Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home is caring for the family.   Online condolences may be left at sandhfuneralservice.com. 

James Merle Enke was born on September 3, 1926, in rural Louisa County, the son of Cecil James and Dale Marie (Owens) Enke.  He was united in marriage to Janet Hutchcroft on August 1, 1947.  They were the last couple to be married at the Marsh United Methodist Church.  Merle was a farmer in Louisa and Henry County.  He was a member of the Marsh United Methodist Church and the Kiwanis.  He enjoyed spending time with his wife, square dancing, buying new cars, going out to eat, watching baseball and being with his grandchildren. 

Merle will be dearly missed by his children, Roberta (Bob) Johnson of Morning Sun, Dean Enke of Coralville; daughter-in-law, Karen Enke of Burlington; grandchildren, Kyle, Kara, Doug, Chad, Blake, Joseph, Ilia and Watson; great-grandchildren, Emily, Wyatt, Sam, Jake, James, Brett, Penelope and Meryl.

Merle  was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Ken; and sister, Wilna Meeker.
