Irmgard E. Shoppa, 95, of Muscatine, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at UnityPoint Health Trinity-Muscatine. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Muscatine. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials in Irmgard’s name may be made to the Muscatine Humane Society. Irmgard Elise Wichers was born on March 25, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Henrich “Henry” and Johanna (Mahler) Wichers. On September 15, 1951, Irmgard was united in marriage to Russell D. Shoppa in Greenwich, Road Island. She worked at Ronda Button Factory from 1948 – 1955 and part time at the Muscatine Journal in later years. Irmgard was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Muscatine. She was known for her green thumb, her hanging flower baskets from Taylor’s Market, her fondness for calico cats, and her focus on family.
Irmgard will be deeply missed by her children, Nancy (Marc) Elliott of Muscatine and Wendy (Eric) Donald of Muscatine; grandchildren, Sarah (Chad) Meeske, Scott Elliott and Zachary (Hannah) Sargent; great-grandchildren, Haley Meeske and Mayble Sargent; sister, Inge Lacy of Muscatine and her beloved calico cat, Phoebe.
Irmgard was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother and husband, Russell in 1997.
