Hartzell “Hank” Schmidgall, 95, of Mediapolis, died on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at his home.
Hartzell Henry Schmidgall was born on July 10, 1926, to Henry and Emma (Koehl) Schmidgall in Hancock, MN. He was a graduate of Hancock High School, Hancock, MN and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.
He married Marian Moser on September 2, 1951, in Morris, MN. After their marriage, Hartzell and Marian settled in Iowa and founded Hawkeye Concrete, Mediapolis, IA, where he enjoyed working alongside his children and grandchildren for many years.
Hartzell’s greatest treasure was his faith in God and his family. He raised his children to love the Lord and seek their salvation. Hartzell was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church of Mediapolis, IA. He spent many evenings visiting the homes of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed playing games with them. Many precious memories were made.
Hartzell was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son-in-law, Tom Steiner; grandson, Rob Steiner; six brothers, Wayne, Francis, Richard, Don, Gilbert and Gene and two sisters, Gladys and Stella.
Survivors include three sons, Don (Carol) Schmidgall, Ron (Jane) Schmidgall, and Jon (Julie) Schmidgall; two daughters, JoAnn Steiner and Janet (Ken) Lanz; sister Darlene Carlton; 19 grandchildren; 65 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Mediapolis. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 27, 2021, at the Apostolic Christian Church in Mediapolis. Ministers of the Church will officiate. A visitation at the church will precede the funeral from 9:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. Memorials may be directed to Lifepoints, formerly A.C.
